Ryan Reynolds, known for his witty humor and deep connections in Hollywood, recently expressed his gratitude towards Chris Evans for his surprise appearance in the much-anticipated movie Deadpool & Wolverine.
On Thursday, August 8th, Reynolds, 47, took to Instagram to share several photos of Evans, 43, on the movie set. He thanked Evans for his involvement, marking his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
In his heartfelt caption, Reynolds shared his admiration for Evans. “Some of the greatest moments I’ve ever experienced in a theater were authored by this guy.
Some of the hardest laughing I’ve ever done came from listening to Chris tell a story — about anything,” Reynolds wrote. “And he got me again this year. Chris is one of those movie stars who’s actually better than you hope he is. And people hold him to a crazy high standard. He’s just the absolute best.”
Chris Evans is widely recognized for his iconic role as Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, in the MCU. However, before he took on the mantle of the First Avenger, Evans portrayed Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, in two Fantastic Four movies produced by 20th Century Fox.
Evans reprised this role in Deadpool & Wolverine, joining a stellar cast that included actors from other Fox Marvel films, such as Jennifer Garner, Wesley Snipes, and Dafne Keen. The movie serves as a nostalgic farewell to Fox’s Marvel universe, especially after Disney’s acquisition of the studio in 2019.
Reynolds continued in his caption, reflecting on the emotional themes of the movie. “Part of the movie’s theme is saying goodbye… And one of the gifts of working on the film is that we got to say goodbye on different terms,” Reynolds shared.
“Seeing Johnny Storm (if only for a short while) was like seeing someone you miss come back from the dead in a dream. Way too brief and too lovely to be real. Goodbyes are hard. It was hard saying goodbye to Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm. But at least we got to actually say it this time.”
In a lighter moment, Reynolds referenced the humorous yet shocking post-credits scene in Deadpool & Wolverine, where Evans’ character meets a gruesome end.

Reynolds joked, “On the other hand, it wouldn’t have been necessary if he hadn’t run his fat-ass mouth around Cassandra,” referring to the movie’s plot twist.
He added, “Or if she hadn’t zip-zapped his skin, leaving his organs to splash crudely onto the ground, while the soil greedily drank his blood. It was horrible.”
Reynolds concluded his tribute with a heartfelt nod to Evans’ character: “Jonathan Lowell Spencer Storm: We love you. Wherever you are, I’m sure you’re thriving. #FlameOff 🧯.”
Deadpool & Wolverine continues to dominate the box office, holding the position as the year’s second highest-grossing film, just behind Pixar’s Inside Out 2, according to Box Office Mojo.
