In a significant political event, Donald Trump has agreed to debate Kamala Harris on September 4. This decision follows Harris’s challenge to Trump, with Fox News set to host the debate in Pennsylvania.
The announcement was made by Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social, late on Friday.
“If for any reason Kamala is unwilling or unable to debate on that date, I have agreed with Fox to do a major Town Hall on the same 4 September evening,” Trump wrote.
The debate format will mirror his previous debate with Joe Biden, featuring “a full arena audience.”
Kamala Harris recently declared her readiness to face Trump, accusing him of avoiding his prior commitment to debate Joe Biden on September 10 on ABC News.
Last week, Harris said she was “prepared” to confront Trump on the debate stage.
Trump expressed frustration with the situation, stating he had prepared to debate Biden before Biden withdrew from the 2024 race on July 21, endorsing Harris as the Democratic candidate.
On Truth Social, Trump posted, “I spent hundreds of millions of dollars, time, and effort fighting Joe, and when I won the debate, they introduced a new candidate.
Not fair. But it is what it is! Regardless, different candidate or not, their flawed policies remain, and this will be clearly shown at the September 4 debate.”
Trump gained a distinct advantage from his June 27 debate with Biden, whose performance heightened concerns about his age and contributed to his decision to exit the race.
Harris secured the necessary delegate votes to become the Democratic nominee, achieving the required 2,350 votes during a virtual roll call ahead of this month’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Harris expressed her gratitude for being the presumptive Democratic nominee, acknowledging the hard work of delegates, state leaders, and staff.
She stated, “The relentless efforts of our delegates, state leaders, and staff have been crucial in reaching this milestone.”

Previously, Trump claimed he did not need to debate his Democratic rival because he was leading in the polls and voters were already familiar with both candidates’ positions.
“Well, I want to,” he told Fox Business Network. “Right now, I say, ‘Why should I debate?’ I’m leading in the polls, and everyone knows her, everyone knows me.”
