Andrew Garfield’s girlfriend, Kate Tomas, has spoken up about the negative and sexist reactions to their relationship.
In an interview with the Sunday Times on July 21, the 42-year-old “professional witch” shared her frustration about how people focus more on her relationship with the Spider-Man actor rather than her own professional achievements.
“It’s frustrating that no matter how successful or impactful a woman is, people are more interested if she is dating a famous man,” Tomas said. “I don’t want to be overshadowed by anyone.”
Tomas, from the UK, has a long career as a “spiritual mentor” for celebrities in London, New York, and Los Angeles. She offers tarot card readings and seduction masterclasses and has a doctorate in theology from the University of Oxford.
Despite working with Hollywood stars like Lena Dunham, Tomas found it different when she was the one being photographed by paparazzi.
“They take hundreds of photos and pick the worst ones,” she said about being in the spotlight since she started dating Garfield earlier this year.
Tomas said it’s upsetting to see the “sexist nature” of the public’s interest in their relationship, which often leads to “criticism of how a woman looks or what she does for work.”
On her Friday Emails podcast, Tomas expressed her shock at receiving negative online comments from other women. “Nothing prepared me for thousands of women telling me I’m ugly, unattractive, and not good enough,” she said.
Tomas has the words “F politeness” tattooed on her left hand as a reminder that “women are taught to please others over their own safety.”
She stated, “I’m never going to do that.” Tomas also revealed that reporters have asked if she’s “a good person,” to which she responded: “I don’t care.”
Garfield and Tomas were first seen together in March this year, holding hands in Malibu, California, on what looked like a double date with singer Phoebe Bridgers and comedian Bo Burnham.
Last month, Tomas confirmed on her podcast that she was in a relationship but didn’t mention Garfield by name. “I am in a new relationship, and I’m in love and I’m really happy,” she said.

In the interview, she denied using magic to attract the Social Network star, despite fans finding her seduction masterclass on her website.
Tomas said she removed the workshop from her site due to the “terrible accusations that I’d used magic to seduce my partner.”
Instead, Tomas explained that real seduction “is not about magic spells or manipulation” or whether someone “meets traditional beauty standards.” She believes that truly attractive people are “full of charisma because they are genuinely themselves and confident in that.”
Garfield was previously linked to model Alyssa Miller from 2021 to 2022 and famously dated his Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone for four years before they split in 2015. Tomas also revealed to the Sunday Times that she recently got divorced for the fourth time.
