Could Disney’s Bob Iger Be Our Next President? Here’s the Wild Story Behind the Rumor!

Disney CEO Bob Iger has always been surrounded by rumors of a potential run for U.S. president. Even Oprah Winfrey once showed support for the idea back in 2020.

However, Iger recently revealed on a podcast that a powerful Democrat suggested he should run because he “looked the part.” During the podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa, Iger shared the moment he was encouraged to run for president.

“He told me, ‘You should run for president,’ and I asked, ‘Why?’” Iger said. “His first response was, ‘Well, you really look the part.’ I told him, ‘Give me a break, that’s not enough.’” Iger didn’t reveal the name of the politician but clarified it wasn’t former President Bill Clinton.

When asked if his wife, Willow Bay, was supportive of the idea, Iger said she wasn’t entirely on board but wasn’t against it either. He shared that she had joked about the possibility of them becoming poorer if he ran for office. However, she expressed that she would support him in his decisions, even if she wasn’t thrilled about the idea.

Despite the talk of running for office, Iger’s main focus remains finding a suitable successor as Disney’s CEO. He stepped down from the role in early 2020 but returned in November 2022. His contract now runs through 2026, and he says he is determined to leave the company in strong hands when he retires for good.

The Disney board is reportedly considering four internal candidates to replace him, including Disney Entertainment co-chairs Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, and Josh D’Amaro, head of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products.

In the podcast, Iger also talked about his involvement in the Beatles’ documentary Get Back, directed by Peter Jackson. Disney+ acquired the rights to stream the documentary, and Iger hosted a screening at his house, with Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, and Olivia Harrison in attendance. For Iger, this was a “pinch-me moment,” having grown up as a Beatles fan in the 1960s.

Additionally, Iger shared the story of being named an honorary Knight of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. In June 2022, he received the honor alongside composer John Williams. Although the queen passed away shortly after, the knighthood ceremony still took place in Windsor Castle.
