Shawn Mendes is getting real about a past scare in his new song, “Why Why Why.” The 26-year-old singer opened up about a time when he nearly became a dad, sharing how it left him feeling scared and overwhelmed. This is the first time he’s talked about this personal experience publicly.
In his song, Shawn describes how he was once told about a possible pregnancy with an ex-girlfriend. He admits he was really shaken by the news because, at that point, he felt too young and unprepared for the responsibilities of being a father.
While Shawn doesn’t mention who the ex-girlfriend is, he hints that it was a difficult time for him, both personally and emotionally.
He sings, “I stepped off the stage with nothin’ left, all the lights were messin’ with my head,” reflecting how the stress of his career and personal life was affecting him back then.
Since hitting the big time in 2014, Shawn has had several high-profile relationships. His most well-known relationship was with Camila Cabello. They dated on and off for about five years.
