Taylor Swift recently opened up about the cancellation of her three shows in Vienna due to a foiled terror attack. These concerts were part of her record-breaking Eras tour and were scheduled to take place from August 8 to 10 at the Ernst Happel Stadium.
The cancellations came after Austrian authorities arrested three suspects who allegedly planned to kill as many people as possible at the shows. The events were expected to draw 65,000 attendees inside the venue, with another 30,000 expected outside.
In an emotional Instagram post, Swift shared her thoughts for the first time about the situation. She described feeling a “new sense of fear” and “tremendous guilt” over the cancellations, especially since so many fans had made plans to attend. However, she expressed gratitude to the authorities for their actions, stating that “we were grieving concerts and not lives.”
Swift highlighted the love and unity she saw among her fans during this difficult time and explained how she directed all her energy toward ensuring the safety of the nearly half a million people who would attend her subsequent shows in London.

Working closely with stadium staff and British authorities, Swift emphasized her commitment to protecting her fans. She also explained why she chose to remain silent about the terror threats initially, fearing that speaking out might provoke further danger. For Swift, “silence” in this case was an act of restraint, allowing her to focus on safely completing her European tour.
Austrian security officials revealed that the main suspect, a 19-year-old, had been radicalized and intended to carry out an attack with the help of a 17-year-old accomplice. The suspects reportedly planned to use knives or self-made explosives to cause mass casualties outside the stadium.
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer supported the decision to cancel the Vienna shows, emphasizing that safety had to come first, despite the disappointment of fans.
Swift successfully wrapped up her London performances from August 17 to 20, including special appearances by British singer Florence Welch and frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.
Swift’s next performance will be in Miami at the Hard Rock Stadium from October 18 to 20.
